Cathy Kampwerth a 1985 Highland High School graduate, was the first Lady Bull- dog basketball player to score 1,000 points in a career. She also led the Lady Bull- dogs to many victories along the way. Kampwerth once scored more than 50 points in the first three quarters of a game in the St. Paul Girls Basketball Tournament. She was the Female Athlete of the Year in 1985 and was named the Post-Dispatch Athlete of the Year for HHS. She received more than 85 scholarship offers from across the United States, many from Division I schools. Kampwerth paved the way for her sisters to follow in her footsteps. She graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1990 with a degree in landscape design and horticulture.
