Laurie (Foederer) Rinderer - Sports
Laurie Foederer Rinderer graduated from Highland High School in 1980. She attended SIUE on a tennis scholarship, graduating in 1984.
Laurie is currently the most distinguished female tennis player in the history of Highland High School. During her high school tennis career she amassed an amazing 87-2 record. In 1978 she was the district singles champion and was named to the metro east area team. The 1979 season saw Laurie repeat as district singles champion. Additionally, she won the Belleville East Invitational and was again named to the all area team. As a HHS senior in 1980 she once again was the district singles champion. Laurie won several matches in the state tournament and was eventually eliminated by the 4th place finisher.
Laurie went on to further her tennis career as a scholarship player at SIUE. As Scholar Athlete of the year in 1981-82 she recorded a 28-5 record, 15-3 in singles and 14-2 in doubles. She was IAIAW flight 3 singles champion and flight 2 doubles champion. Furthermore, Laurie was the flight 3 singles champion in NCAA Division 2. In 1982-83, with a 22-5 doubles record, she was 2nd in the nation, named an All-American, and qualified for the Division 1 Nationals. Laurie was named SIUE Female Athlete of the Year in 1982-1983 and Most Valuable Player in tennis for the 1982-83 season. Laurie completed her collegiate tennis career in 1984, being named an All-American semifinalist at the NCAA Division 3 nationals.
